The day before Thanksgiving is said to be the busiest travel day of the year… Are you headed anywhere today? After all of my trips this year, I’m thrilled to not be hopping on a plane today. (I’ll be making the four hour drive to my hometown in the morning!) I’ve been on 46 flights so far this year and if I’ve learned anything, it’s how to dress for the airports and plane rides! I’m not one to wear sweatpants to the airport, but you won’t catch me super dressed up on a flight either. A comfy and casual, but put-together outfit is my go-to jetset style…. Something functional that doesn’t skimp on the fashion front either. Here are a few tips I keep in mind when it comes to travel style…
Layering is a must! Whether it’s a wrap sweater, a blanket scarf, a faux fur vest, or a mix of all the above, I pile on the layers (with a cotton tee or sweater underneath) when I’m on the go. My body temperature has a mind of it’s own… I swear I’m always shivering with blue lips or sweating profusely. There’s rarely an inbetween, especially when I’m 30k feet above! For packing purposes, I always wear my bulkiest layers (vests, boxy jackets, thick sweaters, etc) to save space in my suitcase, but it helps on the layering front, too.
Comfortable pants are a no-brainer. I don’t like to wear sweats in public and I try to avoid wearing workout pants to the airport, but sitting for hours on end in a tiny seat in skin-tight, non-stretchy pants is an actual nightmare. I tend to wear my stretchiest jeans that almost feel like leggings! These cords are surprisingly comfy for travel, too.
Shoes that are easy to slip on and off are another must for me, too. While I have PreCheck and don’t have to remove my shoes going through security, there are always those random situations where the TSA PreCheck line is closed. Lace-up shoes or fussy over-the-knee boots don’t fly for me… No pun intended. 😉
If I’m wearing slides, sandals, or shoes that don’t allow for socks, I always pack a pair in my tote… Just in case! If I feel like slipping my shoes off on the plane, I’ll put the socks on. Or if I randomly have to remove my shoes for some odd reason, I won’t be left barefoot in an airport!
