Layering for Winter Ski Trips & Beyond

Now that the holidays are over, we’ve got a few straight months of just… winter! January and February can typically be kind of depressing, but I’m trying to take the positive route and embrace winter while it’s here. I’m not a huge fan of snow when I’m in the city, but I can’t get enough if I’m in the right setting. If it’s going to be cold, it might as well be scenic and pretty, right? I mentioned it in this post, but I’m dying to get out to Colorado for some fresh air and fresh powder. (And disclaimer: I toally suck a skiing… more of the après ski kinda girl! 😉) I can’t get enough of little ski towns… They’re my favorite! We’re actually going up to Lake Geneva this weekend and I’m excited for that Winter Wonderland feel.

But back to a trip to mountains! Remember this post from last winter? I accidentally threw out all of my ski clothes when I moved from New York to Chicago last year (It’s a long story… ) and had to re-buy everything last winter before a trip to Aspen. It was a pricey order to place, but I’ve actually found that I wear majority of the layers I bought for ski trips throughout the winter in Chicago!

Whether I’m running out for coffee, taking in the city views along Lake Michigan, or simply headed to-and-from a workout class, I’m usually bundled in the same layers that I pack for my base layers on ski trips!

Here are a few of my favorites at Nordstrom… Free shipping and free returns!

Cold-Weather Long Sleeve Shirts  |  Layers are key in the winter! No matter if you’re on a mountain or just braving the single-digit temperatures, you’ve got to layer up. Add a cold-weather long-sleeved shirt under your sweatshirt!

Fleece Pullovers  |  Ever since I got my first Patagonia pullover, I’ve slowly been adding more to my closet! They’re so easy to throw on in the winter at home, running errands, or to-and-from the gym. And they’re made for the elements so you can get outside in them, too! I have this one in blue and white and this one in black and off-white. (Wearing the ‘linen’ color in these photos!)

Cold-Weather Leggings  |  You’ve got to get yourself a pair of pants that are made for cold-weather! Most workout leggings are designed to keep you cool during sweaty and intense workouts. You know the saying, “get you someone that can do both?” Applies for pants too. Moisture-wicking + cold-protecting = a must in the winter.

Beanies  |  The beanie I’m wearing obviously isn’t meant for under a ski helmet, but beanies are my #1 secret for surviving a winter! I can’t stand how they usually give me hat hair and mat my strands to my head, but they keep me so much warmer. It’s most certainly not a fashion thing (although I have collected quite a few cute ones over the last few years), but a few years ago I realized that hats keep you so much warmer and it was life-changing. I used to think, “Well, my head isn’t that cold, I don’t need a beanie,” but they keep your whole body warm. Game changer, trust.

This is a really nice and interesting blog. With several online shops such as Ounass, Shein, Asos, shopping in the winters have really helped me.
