Skinny Margarita Recipes

I hate using the word “skinny” to describe anything, but “Low Sugar Margarita Recipes” just doesn’t have the same ring to it for a title to this post. There are very few things I love more than a spicy margarita. I always order them when I’m out, fully knowing how much sugar I’m consuming. But now that we’ve been at home for almost two months, I’ve been perfecting some of my recipes for my favorite cocktails!

After about a month of quarantine when I wasn’t feeling like drinking wine, one of my besties was making margs with La Croix, which was very similar to Liz’s recipe! I took those recipes, taste tested a bunch, and came up with three classic tequila cocktails that are low on sugar, but high on taste!

As for tequila, both Maestro Dobel Diamante and Casamigos Blanco are my favorites for margaritas. (Or even shots, ha!) For sipping straight, another I love is Herradura Ultra Anejo. (Or Herradura Suprema if you’re feeling real f*cking fancy.)

As for pouring, I usually do two shots of tequila because I like a strong marg and also have the tolerance of a mule. If you prefer not to taste the tequila or don’t want to overdo it, you can just do a single shot. Or 1.5, whatever floats your boat.

When I’m in the mood for a margarita, I make a fresh ‘citrus mix’ that I keep in a mason jar in the fridge! It’s simply the juice from an entire orange, one lemon, and one lime.

Like I said, I like a spicy margarita! I’ll muddle jalepeños in my glass before I start mixing, or I even like infusing some tequila in the fridge with a few freshly cut jalepeños rounds.

Tajin also makes for a great rim! Before you pour your drink into your glass, dip the rim in lime juice and then dip into a dish of tajin. (FYI – They also make a very convenient container!)
