Friday Finds || Vol. 3, Week 41

Bows & Sequins wearing a gall outfit in the changing leaves... A J.Crew gingham vest, leopard print slip-on sneakers, and a Clare V Apolis Farmers Market Tote

Happy Friday! I was in New York for most of this week (partially for work, partially for fun), and had the most incredible time. I hadn’t visited since May of 2017 and it felt oh-so-good to be back! If I’m being honest, the trip made me start to wonder if I’d ever move back, which was interesting as my thoughts on that had previously pretty much always been no. I guess we never really know what the future holds!

I need to take some time to sit and write about it this weekend, that’s what I always do when I don’t know what to do. Maybe I’ll share some of those thoughts here if a) they’re legible, or b) you’d be interested!

Hope you have a great weekend! I’m hanging with my college friends tonight, have a girlfriend’s birthday party on Saturday, visiting my girlfriend’s newborn baby in the suburbs on Sunday, and need to be simultaneously productive this weekend because I’m flying out for another work trip on Monday morning.

xoxo JRS

Here are this week’s finds…

OMGOSH. If you need something to watch on Netflix this weekend, you need to check out Nikki Glaser’s new show, Bangin’. FOREWARNING: IT IS DIRTY. It’s all about sex and definitely isn’t for everyone, but I found it to be absolutely hysterical and will surely watch it again at some point.

I tried out a new dry shampoo this week (Ouai Dry Shampoo Foam) in NYC and actually really loved it. The foam consistency kind of terrified me at first, but I ended up really liking it. If you wake up with hair matted to your head, this is probably for you! It made me have SO. MUCH. VOLUME. I need to do a whole post about my dry shampoo favorites, but I’m typically a fan of powder products because I find most sprays to be too wet for my liking so I was shocked that I liked this. I think it’s probably one of those products where the application really affects the likability, as it has some bad reviews on Sephora. But I put a small ball in my hand, rubbed it around in my hands, and then lightly distributed the product around the nape of my heck and around my hairline. (Kind of with a hair washing hand-scrunching motion, like I would if I was shampooing my hair.) I then applied another small ball in my hands, rubbed it around, and applied it down my part and at the top/back of my head where I sleep. The Ouai has it on their website in a travel size if you want to try it out before buying a whole bottle! (But also, Sephora’s return policy is legit and you can take it back if you don’t like it after using it a few times.)

Meghan’s post about clean beautyย is so well done and truly breaks it down. (I mean, what does clean even mean?!) It definitely got me thinking about the products I use!

I wanted to share this here because I’m thinking they’ll sell out before I have a chance to photograph them for the blog, but I just got these two sweater dresses and I’m OBSESSED. They’re on sale for under $40 each, both colors are fab, and they run TTS. I got them in a size 4 and they’re perfect — slim, but not too clingy. They’re perfect for travel and look so cute with sneakers, but you could dress them up with heels, booties, etc!

I’m also loving this leopard shirt dress, too! It’s under $80 full price, and an extra 30% with code COLUMBUS19. And if you’re really going for it, OBSESSED with this brown trench and this sequin dress. Both included in the 30% off!

A great Paris food & drink guide! So many of my favorites.

The secret to living rent free in another country. (But OMG that beginning story is a NIGHTMARE!)

Reformation just launched a collab with New Balance!

These customizable Apolis totes are SO CUTE!

Finally listened to the full Steve Aoki episode on Joe Rogan and really enjoyed it! I can’t wait to read his new book, Blue, as his story is so much more interesting than I realized.

Speaking of books, F*ck Feelings is en route to me, as my therapist recommended it at our session this week.

Still obsessed with these shearling sneakers and thinking I need to just order them already.

Took advantage of this 20% off promo and ordered another pair of my favorite sheets!

Gotta love a cozy sweater under $100… Loving this tiger-striped knit, this rainbow striped sweater, as well as this bright leopard one.

I’m late to the party but as a former Chicagoan and current New Yorker I’d love to read a post on what is (possibly) calling you back. So many people boomerang back to nyc and I find it very interesting.

To be frank, it was mainly just the lifestyle for me that was giving me the urge to consider moving back. In Chicago, 98% of my friends are married and/or with kids. And at times, that can feel isolating as a single person. My friends in New York have been later to settle down so it still feels like it did in my twenties. And since I used to live there, there’s always that element of nostalgia when I visit. And the winters are a tad bit better than Chicago. And there are more work opportunities! ๐Ÿ™‚
