I styled this pleated gold maxi skirt on the blog last week for an indoor fête, but if you’re headed somewhere over the next few weeks that won’t be cab-to-curb, you can always opt for two of my favorite style staples — a black turtleneck and a (faux) fur coat! What I love most about black and gold (I have a littleeee bit of a repeat-offender situation going on lately… this outfit, this outfit, and this one, too.) is how it translates to pretty much any festive or formal occasion. It always looks oh-so-elegant! New Year’s Eve, company parties, winter weddings, black-tie galas, charity events.. You name it, you can’t go wrong with classic black and gold.
As luck would have it, we shot these photos on one of the chilliest, windiest days in Chicago… So there ew curls, pleats, and faux fur flying! As Melissa said, “just use the wind as an accessory.” 😂 I feel like I’ll be repeating that in my head all winter long as these crazy winds are blowing me all over the city, haha!
Hallie has this jacket in pink and when I saw it came in black, I had to get it, too! I usually opt for faux fur coats with shorter pile, but this one is so fun to wear. I’ve dressed it up with fancy skirts and have also worn it quite a few times with boyfriend jeans and sneakers. The only downside is having to text Hallie and make sure she isn’t wearing it if we’re meeting up… 😂 (She totes gets first dibs since I was the copy cat… haha!)
For size reference, I’d say the jacket runs pretty true-to-size. (I have a medium and I believe Hallie has a small.) My shoulders are more broad than hers and I always like to have a little room in my jackets… So take that into consideration if you decide to order!
