Summer Bucket List

It’s OFFICIALLY summer, you guys! I couldn’t be more thrilled… I friggen LIVE for this season. Summer is my effing JAM. I went through a period of life where I really liked fall a few years ago, but summer is where it’s at. It’s felt like it for a few weeks now (very lucky for us Chicagoans!), but now it’s officially here and we can bask in everything sweet and sunny that the next 99 days have to offer!

Over the years, I’ve found that I hold myself way more accountable when I make a list. Whether that’s a bucket list or a to-do list or some other type of list that’s currently escaping me, I’m much more likely to accomplish somethingย if I’ve written it down and get to cross it off. It kind of helps with that fleeting feeling, too!

Here are 20 things I’ve got on my bucket list this summer…

  1. Try 5 new-to-me rooftops/patios
  2. Cubs game (I went to the home opener earlier this year, but the weather was so gross. Nothing beats a sunny afternoon at Wrigley!)
  3. Nantucket (โœ”๏ธ I’ll be in there in August for Mackenzie‘s wedding!)
  4. Hamptons weekend with Lauren!
  5. Play mini golf
  6. Walk on the 606 (I know, I know… I’ve never been on it!)
  7. Have a BBQ at my place
  8. Bike along the lake*
  9. Hit up Parson’s
  10. Have a picnic
  11. Get Jeni’s
  12. Go to a movie (Indoor counts, but outdoor is preferred!)
  13. Spa day (preferably at the Pen)
  14. Make boozy popsicles
  15. Read 3 books start-to-finish
  16. Rent a boat for the 4th! (โœ”๏ธ)
  17. Take a boxing class (Any recommendations in Chicago?!)
  18. Green City Market
  19. Try 5 new restaurants (separate from the patios above!)
  20. Go stand up paddle boarding (I did this the first weekend I moved here in 2015 and thought it was so fun!)

*After biking in Santa Barbara last week, I really want to buy a bike (a beach cruiser) to have here in Chicago! Can’t decide if I’m being impulsive or not… Do you think I’d use it?! I feel like I would have such a blast taking a little ride in the mornings along the lakefront path.

Definitely go for the bike! I started going on bike rides last summer and I forgot how amazing they were. I got a new bike for Christmas and use it all the time! I think it’s a good investment.

If you’re interested in getting a cruiser-like bike, I highly suggest the Electra Townie! It has the cute style of a cruiser, but because it is technically a road bike, it’s much lighter and easier to navigate. I got one a few months ago as an extra way to get around my city and love it!

You have to walk the 606, it’s a great trail and I think you should get a bike. It’s such a great way to get around Chicago in the summer that is a workout and fun! Nothing beats cruising with the sun on your face and wind in your hair! Boxing class: Pilates Proworks has a good Matbox class that is a mix of boxing and pilates. On Your Mark Fitness (Bucktown and West Loop) have a cardio box class that I really enjoy and Title Nine has a good class as well.
