Always Buy The Dress

An old manager of mine once told me, “If you find a dress you love that fits well, always buy it! The occasion will come.” It’s so true, don’t you think? There’s nothing worse than that last minute scramble to try to find a dress when a last minute invite comes your way! We’re typically quick to buy dresses that work for daytime and work events, knowing that we’ll get lots of use out of them, but special occasion dresses? Not so much! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard from friends, family, and even clients… “But where will I wear it?!” Sure, you may not know exactly where you’re going to rock the dress, but if you’re a busy gal on the go, chances are you’ve got a pretty packed social calendar, too. And I hate to even say “the h word,” but we’re turning the calendar towards a time of year where fun fetes will be happening pretty often!

In the last few months alone, I’ve had last minute invitations for weddings, work parties, and surprise fancy nights out pop-up in the eleventh hour. Saying yes is so much easier when you know you’ve got a few go-to dresses in your closet and don’t have to drop everything you’re doing to run to the closest store you can find.

I’ve teamed up with Express to show off one of my favorite looks for special occasion. I stopped in before NYFW for some last minute shopping and walked out with a few more dresses than I needed. But like I said, I know I’ll get use out of them in the months to come!

One of my very best friends got engaged when I was in New York for fashion week! I may or may not have cried that morning when I got the “It’s happening tonight!” text and I wouldn’t be able to be there with the rest of my friends to witness it, but I was thankfully able to FaceTime in to watch the proposal. (Which obviously spurred the water works again! Haha) It’s getting to be that time when a lot of my good friends are starting to get married, and I couldn’t be more excited. I already know I have three good friends’ weddings next year and like the planner I am, I’m already wanting to make sure I have plenty of options for bachelorette parties, bridal showers, welcome parties, and more.

I bought this dress primarily for a NYFW party (that I ended up being too sick to go to… I swear the Fashion Week Flu happens every time!), but I knew when I bought it that I’d be able to wear it for many occasions to come! I love how it’s so subtly sexy… The corset-like top, the sheer lace panels at the waist, and the fitted body make for the perfect dress for a fancy night out! Whether it’s date night or a fun night out celebrating the bride to be, I know I’ll be wearing this dress a lot more than once. (Especially since an LBD is season-less, too!)
