Summer Style Staples

old navy striped dress

It’s FINALLY feeling like the summertime that Chicago is known for and I couldn’t be happier! It’s good timing, too, as this has been my first week jumping back into meetings, events, and a regular work schedule since I moved. It’s been great not feeling like I’m in limbo for the first time in months. I’m still waiting on furniture I’ve ordered and all of that, but outside of my actual apartment, I’m feeling a lot more settled overall!

Since the warmer weather is seemingly here to stay (crossing my fingers and knocking on wood!), I’ve been relying on summer staples to take me from day to night. Airy sundresses, neutral prints, denim jackets, and fun, flat sandals that make exploring my new city much easier! I popped in to Old Navy on State Street last week and picked up this dress and I’ve worn in a handful of times already. It’s made an appearance at lunch, a breakfast meeting, and even as a swim coverup! As we transition to fall, I know I’ll be wearing it with suede, fringe, or leather cross-body bags, and cute sneakers or booties.

Like I mentioned, it felt so nice to get back into the swing of things this week. I’ve met with a few amazing companies in Chicago and also discovered a handful of new restaurants, shops, etc. I spent Tuesday night on the Odyssey Chicago catching up with some fellow Chicago bloggers, cruising along the lakefront with the most beautiful views of the skyline at sunset.

I had lunch at the Cherry Circle Room at the new Chicago Athletic Hotel and it was so, so good. Definitely get the lobster roll (and old bay fries) if you go! After lunch, I discovered the new Madison Hall shop in the hotel and I already know it’s going to be a must-visit boutique for me. There’s a mens and a women side, both complete with the perfect gifts. It’s the curation that makes it a must-do, though. There are pieces you won’t find anywhere else in the city! And naturally, the decor is on point, too. I now want a vintage gold metal trunk for my living room coffee table.

Last night, I was back at the Chicago Athletic Hotel, but this time it was on the 13th floor rooftop restaurant, Cindy’s. The views and the food were both amazing! Highly recommend. I was there for a dinner with Veuve Clicquot, as they just launched their #ClicquotMail in Chicago! So if you see a giant orange mailbox cruising around the city this weekend, stop by for a little pick-me-up.

Tomorrow night, Hallie and I (and our +1s) are heading to The Shedd Aquarium’s annual BLU event. I’ve never been before, but apparently it’s a great crowd, fireworks, over 20 food/drink vendors from all around Chicago including Luke’s Lobster, Sunda, Honey Butter Fried Chicken, KOVAL and Stan’s Donuts.. Yum! (You can still buy tickets here and be sure to say hi if you’re going and see us there!)

I’d love to wear an outfit like this during the summer. But down in here in Arkansas it’s too hot to even consider wearing a jacket! I reserve my denim jacket for the fall.
