March Madness

While I can’t believe it’s already March, I’m so ready for spring! Let’s hope it’s not too many more weeks before bare-leg and bikini season is upon us. While it’s crazy to think two months have come and gone in a flash since New Years Eve, March also signifies one more thing — crunch time.

Whether you’re headed to the beach for a Spring Break getaway, or simply trying to get in shape before summer rolls around, the clock has just started to tick a whole lot faster. Am I right? If you’ve got an upcoming getaway planned, you probably have a few weeks until you’re boarding your flight to paradise. If you’re trying to get bikini-ready by Memorial Day weekend, you’re halfway there! March is a great time to do a check-in with your New Years Resolutions. Are you accomplishing the goals you set for yourself? Are you still on the right track? Don’t get down on yourself if you’re a little bit off the path you pictured yourself on! It’s a new day, it’s a new month, and it’s not too late to start NOW. You’ve still got plenty of time to achieve those goals if you put in the work!

Let’s do a check-in on my end, shall we? I set some lofty goals for myself in January, and while I’m well on my way with some of them, there are others that have fallen to the wayside. Life just gets in the way sometimes, doesn’t it? Now that I’m taking a step back to re-evaluate some of these goals, I know that they are not impossible, but the timeframe will simply be a bit longer. And that’s okay!

Personally, when things veer off from the plan I had, I tend to go into crisis mode. For example, let’s take a scenario from a few weeks ago. Each Sunday night, I slate out a quick plan for the week. Meetings, dinners, deadlines, events, etc. I study my schedule to know when I’ll be able to fit in my workouts, outfit shoots, and blog time. Then each night during the week, I write out a little road map for myself to keep myself on track the next day. It looks a little sometime like this — 8:00am- leave for subway. 8:30am- coffee with XYZ. 10am- meeting at work. 2:00am- call with XYZ. 6:30pm- grab XYZ for outfit shoot. 8:00pm- yoga. — Now picture yourself oversleeping, waking up at 8:40am to a text from the person you’re supposed to be at coffee with wondering where you are. Update: you’re still in your bed. INSTANT STATE OF PANIC. From there, it’s easy for me to freak the heck out and deem my whole day as being a total wash. OR, I can make the decision to get myself into the shower and moving along with my day. I don’t know why, but choosing the latter option is always a struggle for me, but definitely something I’m working on!

I’m also trying to apply that same logic to my fitness game. Just because you haven’t lost those five pounds yet, don’t freak out and go into crisis mode and order a pizza for dinner. (I’m speaking from experience, here.) Just go hit the gym! Do the most that you can, whenever you can. Maybe you’ll feel more comfortable in a one piece on your upcoming vacation in two weeks, but you’ll be bikini-ready by the time summer is here. Same goals, just a new timeframe. As long as you’re moving forward, you’re on the right track!

Now that it’s March and I’m checking in with my fitness goals, I’m a bit behind. I was a go-getter in January — yoga, spin, barre, cardio — I was hitting the gym frequently and I was going to my classes religiously, and it was fabulous! Then February happened… New York Fashion Week, a weekend away, friends in town another weekend, crazy times at work… And now it’s March. My workout frequency took a big dive in February, so now it’s time to pick myself back up! I started going to yoga pretty consistently in January and it felt so good. I was finally starting to get in my grove and pushing myself further and further each class. And I can’t wait to get that back. I’ve scheduled myself for two classes this week and I’m excited to bring along my new Orla Kiely yoga gear. I’ve said it again and I’ve said it before, new gear always does wonders for my motivation!

Two more gadgets I’ve loved lately – my new Beats headphones and my FitBit! These wireless headphones are a game changer. Whether you’re working out or on your commute to work, it’s SO nice to not have that cord hanging in front of you! I also recently started tracking my days with the FitBit Charge and I’m loving it so far… The app monitors your movement (steps, minutes, miles, calories, floors, etc.), your sleep, your weight, as well as your food and water intake. I’ve found that it’s a great way to keep myself on track!

Love this post! Honestly I have strayed from my resolutions too. My original resolution was to start upping my weekly mileage and to run everyday. So far my mileage has gone up, but not nearly as much as I wanted it too. However, I’ve picked up the pace and have put in more miles these last couple of days so I’m on track 🙂

Love this! (And those leggings!) I’m a big proponent of doing what you can, when you can too because I’ve been in the STATE OF PANIC way too many times. 😉 I’ve been traveling like crazy for work and if it means rushing all over town to fit in classes between meetings (ahem – today at Soul!) or even just taking a brisk walk (setting my phone time for 15 minutes, walking in one direction then turning around). A little goes a long way in my book!

I have the FitBit Flex, and I love it! It’s definitely a great way to keep track of your progress and monitor when you need to get a little extra activity in for the day.

If I recall correctly you wore a Jawbone previously? How are you finding the Fitbit in comparison? I’m itching to get my hands on one but I just can’t seem to choose between the two!
