Paris, Part One

parisian cafe rue cler

I can’t believe how fast the last week has gone, but I’m currently en route back to the United States! Time really does fly when you’re having fun. The past week was absolutely incredible. Paris was truly everything I thought it would be and more!

We flew out of Newark last Thursday afternoon (10/9) and spent five nights in Paris! Hallie found extremely cheap tickets back in March and we booked the trip on a whim. Like, literally within the hour. The caveat was that we would have a 22 hour layover in Oslo, Norway. However, to us, this wasn’t a bad thing at all! We got up on Wednesday morning, got to the Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, and took a quick two hour flight to Oslo. Once we got into Oslo, 22 hours was plenty of time for us to take on the town. We took a train into Oslo (FYI — the train from OSL to downtown Oslo is super quick and easy), checked in to our hotel, ate lunch, explored the downtown area, did some damage shopping, ate dinner, and got a good night of sleep before waking up and heading back to the airport this AM.

While this was definitely the trip of a lifetime, the way that I entered and left Paris was a little bit less than ideal. As you know from a few posts ago, I was super sick when I got to Paris. Thankfully, I felt heaps better after a day or two. I’m still battling a bit of an “upper respiratory infection,” but nothing at all like I was a week ago. All of the Parisian bread and cheese healed me! ha 😉

Fast-forward to our last evening of the trip.. Tuesday night. After our final amazing day of wandering and exploring, we headed to the Eiffel Tower Plaza for sunset. ALL OF THE PHOTOS! Such a gorgeous view and a cotton candy sky. Well, once you looked past ALL OF THE TOURISTS. Seriously, so many people that it almost gave me claustrophobia. When we walked up, I actually said, “Now this is where we need to be careful with all of our stuff!”

After taking a few photos for Instagram, we battled the crowds and took outfit photos.. I took Hallie’s outfit photos, and then Hallie took my photos. Meanwhile, Bianca was holding down the fort just a few feet away with all of our bags. After we were done shooting, I was rifling through my bag for my phone (to take even more pictures) and couldn’t find it. I slightly panicked and made all of us search all of our bags right then and there. Yes, sitting indian-style on the Eiffel Tower Plaza. HASHTAG TOURISTS. Nada. We flipped on our XCOM Global hotspot to try to call my phone over wifi. Straight to voicemail. I log in to Find My iPhone on Hallie’s phone and my phone was offline even though it should have automatically connected to our wifi connection. So somehow, it was stolen right out from under us. None of us can really comprehend what happened, or even how it happened, but THANK GOD it wasn’t my passport or something that isn’t as easy to replace. After the initial shock wore off, I wanted to cry for a few minutes, but held it together as we walked back to our apartment. Then I just kind of realized that we had our last night in Paris ahead of us and that I wasn’t going to let something as stupid as a phone get me down. The lesson, though, is this — There are some damn ninjas in Europe. Be careful!

My biggest gripe is that I lost majority of the pictures I took in Paris. So sad! But at least the other girls have a ton of photos and I had Instagrammed up a storm the few days prior. Now, it’s just a waiting game since the iPhone 6’s are backordered. Thankfully, my mom was to the rescue and got mine on order the next morning after she got my email. So hopefully I’ll only be without a phone for about a week!

There’s so, so much more to come from our trip! Now that the very minor negative things are out of the way, I can’t wait to share all of the FABULOUS parts with you. Stay tuned over the weekend and into the coming week. 🙂

But first, here’s a look at one of my Parsian-inspired outfits from the trip. We shot these photos at the cutest café (Café du Marché on Champ de Mars and Rue Cler) that was right around the corner from the apartment we were staying in in the 7th arrondissement (neighborhood). I packed extremely lightly for the trip (more on that to come) and these J Brand black jeans were my wardrobe staple.

For this particular day, I paired them with a black tee, my trusty camel blazer, and flat black booties. I borrowed Hallie’s head scarf and tied it in a chic little bow and topped it all off with a pop of red. How Parisienne of me. 😉

Isn’t it weird how much losing or breaking a phone on a trip can completely wreck your world?! Same thing happened to me in London a couple of years ago and I cried, haha. *And* I somehow lost my SD card while there, too. Devastating! So many tears. So glad you have Hallie’s photos though… These are gorgeous!! 🙂 Hope you had an AMAZING time! (And I hope you had some wine in the grass under the Eiffel Tower. Awesome that that’s kind of allowed, hehe.)

My phone got stolen at Supper Club in Hollywood recently and it had pictures from a red carpet event with Benjamin Mckenzie, Max Greenfield, James Van der Beek, Eric Dane, Vanna White, and AL GORE. I was so upset–so I feel your pain. You look tres chic though!!! Love the colors.

These photos are great, and that cafe looks so cute! I’m so sorry that you lost your phone, but I think it’s awesome that you were able to enjoy your last night in Paris and not let it get to you too much. I probably would’ve reacted the same way!

That sucks you lost your phone! Did any of them save to iCloud? I actually have an iPhone as well and although I’ve never lost my phone, I have lost pictures during updates or resets. Because iCloud is so limited on space (I refuse to buy more!), I opted for downloading Dropbox. I have the app on my phone and every night, I upload the pictures on my cell phone to the app (this can be done automatically as well) that way if I ever lose my phone or its contents, I’ll have my pictures saved. The cool thing is that it connects with your PC or laptop so whatever is saved on your Dropbox app automatically gets uploaded to your computer. Don’t know if you’re already familiar with Dropbox, but I highly recommend it. Hope to see more posts/pics from your Paris trip.

P.S. No, I don’t work with them nor was this a sponsored comment lol, it’s just something that’s worked for me so I like to share my tip.

Ugh, it’s so annoying that these things happen. Every single tour guide I’ve had overseas always tells us to “watch out for the gyspsies” because it happens so often. Good for you for not letting it ruin your trip. And now you get a shiny new 6! 🙂

Beautiful pictures! Yes better your phone than something irreplaceable! I had my drivers license and phone stolen in Chicago a few years back in a very dark bar/club. I was lost w/o my phone but it’s was easily replaced but my license not so much and by the grace of God they let me on my flight w/o out it! I didn’t have a passport back then.

Where would I get my initials put on a bag like that? And where did you book your flights so cheap if you don’t mind me asking?? Paris is next on my list 🙂
