TRESemmé Throwback Thursday: Hats Off to Style!

While dressing up your brothers as girls and wearing fancy hats may no longer be the norm, hats are having a major moment. A fedora is always a fashion-friendly option for keeping the sun off your face in the summer months. And as we transition into fall, a hat really is a must have. Menswear-inspired baseball hats and ultra chic wide-brim hats are all the rage right now. Nothing gives off a cooler vibe than donning a hat. Am I right? Hats can be tricky though, especially if you’re not rocking a “long pixie cut,” like I was in 1997. (I’m pretty sure I have a mullet going on… Thanks, mom!) Today, I’m going to show you how to style your hair when you’re wearing a hat!

Step 1 — While hats are great for covering up a serious case of bedhead, if you’re styling your hair to wear with a hat, you probably want to wash and blow-dry your hair. The less greasy your hair, the less likely you’ll be to get hat hair later. When blow-drying, make sure to give your roots some extra attention for a volume boost.

Step 2 — For a fedora, I think loose waves are the best way to go. Make sure to mist your strands with TRESemmé Platinum Strength Heat Protect Spray while your curling wand is heating up.

Step 3 — When curling my hair, I always pin the top half up and focus on the longest layer first. Take one-inch sections and wrap each around the curling wand. Don’t forget your super stylish glove to protect against burns! 😉

Step 4 — Once you’ve gone around your head and curled your longest layer, un-pin your top layer and begin to curl those pieces. I always prefer to wrap the hair AWAY from my face. With my hair length, I wrap each piece around the wand THREE times for the “loose waves” look. Another tip is to try and keep the hair as “flat” as possible as you’re wrapping it around the wand. AKA: don’t twist the sections!

Step 5 — After your hair is completely curled, give your style some longevity and spray a generous dose of TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Hairspray.

The tip that makes all the difference – Carry TRESemmé Fresh Start Color Care Dry Shampoo in your bag for on-the-go touchups to absorb any oil that may start creeping up throughout the day, especially when you want to ditch that fedora day look for a night out on the town! 🙂

OMG I am the oldest of two brothers and I used to dress them up as girls too! Haha dying over that picture. I don’t think I have any documentation of it, mostly because my parents were horrified whenever I did that.

I love that you take the time to spray hair spray amongst the layers — I always forget and only spray the top, but you really have to spray into the layers to get hold.. great tips, lady!

It’s actually frightening how much your brother and I looked alike as babies… Remind me to show you a photo A-SAP.

And props to you for styling fedora hair! Usually I wear hats for the sole purpose of not washing/curling my hair, haha. I’m officially inspired to make more of an effort!
