NYC Pt. 1: SO Excited!

Oh. My. Gosh. Words cannot even begin to describe how excited I am to go to New York City next month! My first trip to NYC was this past November and I have been dying to go back ever since. I will be out there during part of New York Fashion Week from 9/6-9/9. I squeal with delight just thinking about it! Lucky FABB tickets were released first, but I didn’t get one in time and got put on the waiting list. A couple of weeks later the IFB Conference tickets were released and I got one, thankfully! I’m surprised the conferences are on the same day this Fashion Week because they were different days back in February. I’m kind of bummed that I am not able to attend both conferences because I would learn SO much, but one is better than none! ๐Ÿ™‚

Joe Zee (yes, THAT Joe Zee, the Creative Director at Elle) is the keynote speaker at the upcoming IFB Conference. There are a TON of other panelists attending and I can wait to hear each one of them speak, but I am SO excited to hear from Kristina Medhus (Pretty Shiny Sparkly).

I’m not sure if I’ve told you before, but here’s the story of how Bows & Sequins came about. It all started one sleepless night last November in Champaign… I was browsing the internet looking for closet and accessory organization/storage ideas. That’s when I literally stumbled upon Pretty Shiny Sparkly. I thought Kristina’s site, personal style, and personality were amazing and I was quite intrigued with the whole personal style blog concept. I always got compliments on my outfits, I was always was the friend that my friends went to for fashion and outfit advice, etc. Sometimes I would take pictures of myself in the mirror because I loved my outfit, but never in a million years would I think of showing someone! I was almost embarrassed for anyone to find out that I thought my outfit rocked. Kristina truly inspired me and I thought, “What the heck! I can do this!” and decided to create a blog. I didn’t have the confidence to post my first picture until February, but it’s been such an amazing experience ever since.

And I owe it all to Kristina. I am so undeniably elated to meet her and hear her thoughts on “Business & Blogging.” Pretty Shiny Sparkly has been such a guiding light for me throughout the whole process of starting and maintaining Bows & Sequins. I kind of idolize Kristina and her blog so star-struck will be an understatement, I’m sure!

Although I wasnโ€™t in attendance, I remember the last NYFW buzz like it was yesterday! I was glued to my iPhone and computer all day on the lookout for tweets and new posts from my favorite fashion bloggers who were able to attend the conferences, shows, parties, etc. I remember looking through their recollections and fabulous photos with each other, Joan Rivers, Jenna Lyons, Tory Burch, Leandra Medine and Erika Bearman and being in complete shock and awe. I remember thinking, โ€œThat would be SO COOL!โ€ I made it a personal goal to be in their shoes one day. I guess a girl’s dreams really can come true! ๐Ÿ™‚

Believe it or not, I haven’t started to plan my NYC outfits yet. But don’t worry, I’ll be sharing each and every step of my NYC adventure with you!

PS- This is my first blog conference and I’m kind of scared! If any of you will be attending the IFB Conference on September 7th, I’d love to meet you there and have a buddy throughout the day! ๐Ÿ™‚

It helps me to kinda plan what I am going to wear every day so I don’t over pack. I would also check City Maps, NY Mag just named them one of hte cool new tools… it can help you see what the dress is like for where ever you want to do.
