Friday Finds || Vol. 2, Week 10

Jessica Sturdy in a hanging swing chair at Bask & Stow in Byron, Bay Australia

Happy Friday, friends! The weather was a doozy this week, but it was one of those weeks where I just focused on creating my own sunshine. Yoga dates with girlfriends, working from coffee shops instead of my apartment, etc. I went to dinner at Barrio on Tuesday night, True Food Kitchen on Wednesday night, and 90 Miles on Thursday night, which definitely helped to break up the week, too. It’s always so hard to find a “good weekend” to leave the city, but I’m heading home today to spend some time with my family this weekend, which is long overdue! Hope you’ve got some fun things planned, too. xoxo JRS

One of my goals this year is to differentiate my content across platforms… In non-marketing speak, I just want to share different things on the blog than I do on Instagram than I do in emails, etc. Does that make sense? I’ve been trying to give you guys incentives to follow along in different places, so you’re not seeing repetitive content. Sounds good, yeah? You’ve probably seen a lot of my Instagram posts with a LiketoKnow. It link in the caption for shopping purposes, but until now, it’s been kind of confusing because you can’t click those links on Instagram. You’d have to copy and paste the link or sign up for emails… Ain’t nobody got time for that, I know.

Well the fine folks at LiketoKnow. It actually launched their own app recently (you can download it here!) and you’re able to shop all of the images within the app. I’ve been trying to add some extra photos in there that aren’t on Instagram or the blog, too! I know we’re all drowning in apps, but I actually really love the interface and most of the other bloggers you follow are probably on the app, too. You can find new blogs to follow, shop by trends, etc. So if you do download the app, I’d love for you to give me a follow to keep up with things over there! As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

This graphic explains a bit more how the screenshot portion of the app works, too…

Okay, now let’s get to this week’s finds…

I tagged along to one of my guy friend’s clothing appointments at Josh Kercher on Tuesday night and it was one of those odd moments where worlds collide! (Mutual friends, followers, interests, etc.) I was poking around on Instagram that night (as you do) and found a podcast episode that Josh recently did and it was so refreshing to hear about his story… Farm kid that now works in fashion. (Sounds vaguely familiar, huh? 😉) Outside of that, there’s so much great info about being an entrepreneur, taking risks, making connections, how your style makes an impression, and more… Check out the podcast here!

*Seriously though, tell your Chicago guys friends that are into made to order clothing (or any guys getting married soon!) to check Josh out. And you should totally try to tag along on the appointment… So fun!

Goop just launched a podcast this week and I’ll be listening to the first episode with Oprah on my four hour drive to my dad’s this morning!

Can’t get over these summery heels! Though the question remains… Blush pink, navy, or the black and white striped?

I’m still obsessed with this bag for summer!

I know it’s March, but God knows I’ll be wearing my trusty turtlenecks well into April. Or probably even May, tbh. Loving this one with the orange stripe! (And it’s only $45!)

OH EM GEE. Couldn’t be more in love with these striped pants!!

Guys, this one is friggen random, but v interesting none the less. I don’t even know how I came across this podcast (down the rabbit hole somewhere), but when I saw Dave Asprey (the Bulletproof founder) on the Sex with Emily podcast I was like dafuqqqq 🤔. You know I’m a big podcast person (much preferred over watching TV) and while this one isn’t up my usual self-help or motivational alley, it was super fascinating.

Speaking of podcast listening, one of my favorite things to do when I’m listening to podcasts is color! (Yes, literally with colored pencils.) I recently got this Color Me Stress-Free coloring book and I absolutely LOVE IT! So relaxing, and such a great way to start or end the day.

On a bit of a side note, when I started getting hooked on podcasts, I was sort of bummed that I didn’t have a commute or a daily time that I could listen to all of the episodes that I wanted to listen to. So I’ve started listening to them when I’m making dinner, in the shower, doing laundry, cleaning my apartment, getting ready, or even taking a bath. (Or just coloring!) It was simply a matter of creating the time!

A great POV on the 80/20 rule.

My hair straightener blew out in Melbourne, so I’m extra interested in this $40 straightening brush Mackenzie posted about!

I watched this interview with Kendrick Lamar and Rick Rubin again this week and loved it just as much! (Side note: is anyone else absolutely FASCINATED by Rick Rubin?!)

I feel like I’m constantly on the quest for the perfect pillow… I’ll get one that feels comfortable and then end up not liking it a few weeks in. For as much as I love my Boll & Branch sheets (honestly, obsessed!), I’m super interested in trying out the new Boll & Branch pillows!

How cute are these bow-tied sandals?

I just got this Under Armour bomber jacket for going to-and-from workouts and I love it!

I’m always a fan of wicker bags in the spring and summer and these two new ones from Kate Spade are super cute… Julia & Sam

Guys, this undereye concealer is still blowing my GD mind. THE BEST! I’m such a creature of habit and sometimes don’t like trying new things when I know “what works” for me… I was hesitant to try a new concealer, and probably wouldn’t if it wasn’t for it being the same brand that I was already using, but this concealer is legitimately what dreams are made of. It honestly makes me forget what my dark circles look like! It’s not cakey, clumpy, and doesn’t crease or dry out your undereye area. If you’re like me and have battled dark circles and looking tired your whole life, BUY THIS. Trust me. (I wear Medium Cool 6, fyi.) I’m very shocked by the less than stellar reviews on Sephora, but I think it’s because it’s brand new and people are quicker to comment when things are not up to expectation, versus when they are. Compared to what I used to use (Bare Minerals Stroke of Light in Luminous 2 — still love this one for less coverage), this is much more “full coverage” … Honestly can’t imagine using something that’s more full coverage than this new one under my eyes, but then again, I’m not into the super “Youtube-y” heavy makeup look. (PS: If you remember from last week, this is the same concealer that lasted through a hot yoga class where I was sweating bullets.)

I’m super into the concealer as well. Totally covering up the bags underneath my eyes from the lack of sleep lately.

I’m ordering your bed sheet recommendation. I need a bath towel recommendation. The brand I get becomes so scratchy (even thought they are properly cared for) after less than a year. I’m thinking Turkish towels, any thoughts?

I bought that concealer after you posted about it last week (always on the hunt for a new one) and I’m OBSESSED. I’ve been wearing just a tiny bit of that on my less-than-perfect, slightly acne scarred/broken out skin and have been skipping my usual foundation, two dif types of concealer, bronzer, blush, setting powder, etc. routine because of it – just a bit of that concealer on problem spots and highlighter and (mostly) bare skin and I’ve never been more confident! Thank you x a million for the rec!
