When it comes to fall clothing, I’m all about the playfully preppy details. I love taking basic wardrobe staples (like denim, sweaters, and jackets) and mixing them with a few classic prints for a fun pattern pop. The more layers and textures, the merrier! Each little (unexpected) detail helps to complete the outfit.
Print Mixing 101 | When you’re mixing prints, you really can’t go wrong if you stick to the classics… Stripes, leopard print, polka dots, and even camo. It’s all fair game! Preppy with a twist, just the way I like it. Give your outfit some extra personality by having fun with your prints!
When it comes to striped tops, you can never have too many. I picked up both of these oh-so-soft striped sweaters at Old Navy before I left for Europe and they’ve each been on repeat for the last few weeks. They’re both lightweight and make getting dressed during this fall transition a breeze!
Speaking of Paris, I’ve been frequenting two new French spots in Chicago and I’m absolutely in love with both of them!
Maison Marcel is up in Lakeview and is one of the cuter cafes in Chicago, hands down! The decor inside is so open and airy, it’s the perfect spot to park with your laptop or a good book. Their croissants are probably the best I’ve had outside of France and their food menu is great, too! All of their toasts and juices are 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Petit Margeaux, inside the Waldorf, is just a few blocks from my apartment and has the *best* iced vanilla latte (with almond milk, of course)! There’s plenty of seating inside and a cute little patio with cushioned chairs and umbrellas… Such a great place to get some work done in the morning or a sunny afternoon!
Both of these outfits are casual and comfortable, but still feel put together for a day spent working outside of my apartment! You never know how coffee shops will be, though, so layers are key. Whether it’s a moto jacket or this long open-front cardigan, come prepared.
PS: Remember this camel cardigan that we’ve all raved about?! It’s back! This year, I bought it in grey and black. Obsessed! And it’s not the least bit itchy since it’s made of cotton (#machinewashable)… win, win.
The Must-Have Piece: Suede Moto Jacket | I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again… You’ve got to add a suede moto jacket to your closet! I have a few in my closet, but I couldn’t resist this beautiful burgundy color when I saw it. It’s the perfect compliment for all of the neutrals and navy I wear! Plus, it’s under $60 and also comes in a chic cognac color.
