As soon as summer starts to fade to fall, my wardrobe foundation slowly transitions from dresses and skirts to denim, denim, and more denim. Just like dresses, I firmly believe that you can never have too many pairs of jeans… Especially when you wear a pair almost every single day from September to May!
One of my favorite places to shop for jeans is Express. You’ve seen me wearing Express jeans on the blog for years and years, since the very beginning! The fit of their mid-rise and high-rise skinny jeans is perfect for my pear-shaped bottom half. A lot of times it can be hard for me to find jeans that fit both in the waist and the hips… Most of the time it’s either or.
While there are some people who have their perfected style down to a science, no matter the season, I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that’s not me. At least not right now! My style is my creative outlet and it’s constantly evolving. Simply put, I wear what I feel. What I’m wearing says more about my mood than words ever could! I like to mix it up, I like to take trends and put my spin on them, and most importantly – I like to have fun with it. Fashion doesn’t have to be so serious!
A few years ago, I was a little bit intimidated by black jeans. I loved the look, but I felt like they didn’t quite mesh with my slightly preppy and colorful style. But over the years, I’ve found that my style is a bit more cyclical and seasonal… In the summer and on vacations, I’m all about the color, prints, and patterns. But throughout the cooler months, I tend to gravitate towards a lot more neutrals. My non-summer wardrobe pretty much consists of black, grey, white, camel, and navy.
You can never go wrong with black and white! No matter the season, a black and white outfit looks chic for just about any and every occasion… From the work week to the weekend. Here, I styled my new black skinny jeans from Express for two different scenarios… Running around town for work meetings during the week and another that’s more of a laidback look for taking in Chicago on Saturday and Sunday.
For the work week, I love the look of black skinny jeans with heels and a silky blouse. I tried on this striped blouse at Express and knew it was coming home with me. It’s their new SlimFit Portofino Shirt, but I sized up to a Medium so it would fit intentionally oversized without feeling baggy. I think the loose fit still looks buttoned up enough for my work meetings, but just slightly undone and relaxed.
For the weekend, skinny jeans, slides, and a simple tee is all you need! I paired my new ‘Like a Kloss’ tee with my favorite straw hat and my new favorite bag that I picked up in Italy. It’s an outfit rooted in simplicity, but it feels put together with the right accessories!

I love your weekend outfit. I haven’t been into graphic tees that much until lately. Our style for the fall/winter months are quote similar. I love the same color palette as you, with the addition to burgundy. I have yet to find the perfect pair of black pants, so I’m hoping this year is the year! And you are so right about denim. We live in our jeans for the majority of the year. And with that, they take alot of abuse. So why not invest in lots of great pairs!?

Too early for me to start thinking about fall but I do like the jeans. Once its too cold to wear dresses, skirts and sandals I just get stuck wearing jeans, long sleeve shirts, jackets and sneakers for winter unless there is a special occasion. Oh yeah Chicago winter starts in Oct and end sometime in May. NYC winter starts late Oct and ends mid to late April.
I absolutely love black denim. I’ll wear it year round and it never gets old. Love these two looks – hope you have a wonderful weekend!
