Weekend Wear // Evening Edition

How was your Fourth of July weekend?! Mine was exhausting, but in the best way possible. So, so much fun! I’ll give you a run-down of the weekend, as there are some major gems that are too funny not to share. But first, let’s talk clothes. I wore this outfit for a night out out in New York a few weeks ago, and ended up repeating it this past Friday night. I have a feeling I’ll be wearing it well into the fall, too. (I hate even admitting that summer will end one day, but just being realistic.) It’s perfect right now for those cooler summer nights!

I picked up this long-sleeve off-the-shoulder crop top a few weeks ago, even though it was out of my typical comfort zone. I’ve been trying to branch out more with my “going out clothes” this year and while I typically share more of my daytime outfits on the blog, I figured I’d start sharing a “going out outfit” every week or two, too! If you’re anything like me, getting dressed to go out is a major stressor 90% of the time. I typically dress pretty preppy, fairly feminine, and kind of conservatively, too, which doesn’t always work for a night out. I’m assuming I’m not the only one with this struggle, so hopefully this is helpful!

While I would usually pair this suede wrap skirt with a turtleneck and tights in the winter (and definitely still will this winter!) or a short sleeve blouse in the summer, I went for a look that was more outside of my lines with a crop top. Since the skirt is so high-waisted, I felt more comfortable not having too much skin showing in between! And since the top is long-sleeved, the little sliver of skin at my mid-section didn’t really bother me. The skirt does have a thigh-high slit, but since it’s on the longer side, I’m comfortable with it! Plus, my legs are usually the one body part I’m fine with flaunting a bit more.

I haven’t fully gotten on board with the choker trend yet, but this top has a built-in neck piece, which is a stepping stone! I love the way it looks with the neckline of this top, so I’m considering searching for a cute choker necklace to see how it pairs with other things in my closet. I’ll report back (and share on the blog or Snapchat!) if I do!

Okay, on to my weekend… On Friday night, grabbing dinner and a glass of rosé at Hampton Social turned into Hallie and I splitting more than one bottle of wine and me giving some drunk guy kid my my brother’s phone number around 2:30am just so he’d leave us alone. (Sidenote: He was 21 (assuming he wasn’t using a fake ID), still in college, and in town visiting for the weekend. Apparently he hasn’t learned to leave a girl alone when she’s not interested, and I sure AF wasn’t giving him my phone number. My brother’s was the first thing I could think of! I will say, getting screenshots from my brother messing with him was a major highlight all weekend!) And PS: If you’re looking for a kegger, message me, I’ve got an address in Wrigleyville that apparently throws them all the time. 😂

We were planning on getting an early start on Saturday morning, but given our late night on Friday, we finally got on the road around 11am. We drove to a friends house for the day/night in Michigan City, Indiana, a little beach town about an hour and a half from Chicago. We hit some traffic and also had a bit of a food cruise (my term for stopping at multiple fast food places in one drive) so we were in the car for almost three hours. Oops! The extra time in the car was actually kind of enjoyable, though… I forgot how much I loved road trips with friends! It was such a fun day once we finally arrived, too. A softball game, singing the national anthem, a killer cookout, a live band, fireworks in the backyard… It was a stereotypical all-American Fourth of July celebration! Also, if you ever find yourself in Michigan City, definitely go to The Treehouse. We all had an absolute blast there on Saturday night!

Sunday was a very early start, as we had to get back to the city well before Hallie’s SoulCycle class at 10:45am. However, we learned that Taco Bell does serve breakfast so I guess that was a plus? haha On Sunday afternoon, we decided to buy tickets last minute for the second night of Mamby on the Beach, a music festival held in the sand at Oakwood Beach in Chicago. While I typically can’t stand sand on me unless I’m in a bathing suit (and one of my biggest pet peeves if finding sand in my shoes, bag, clothes, etc after leaving the beach), it was so much fun! The view of the city at sunset was absolutely incredible and Chromeo and Chet Faker were both really fun to see.

As you can probably imagine, I was absolutely exhausted on Monday, the actual 4th of July. It was 70 & cloudy for a lot of the day and I didn’t have set plans, so I wasn’t too hard on myself for staying at home for a good chunk of the day. A few friends went to the Cubs game during the afternoon, so I ended up meeting up with them in Wrigleyville afterwards. Just as a reminder, never go to Wrigleyville completely sober a few hours after a Cubs game. Thankfully, people were starting to clear out stumble out of the bar by the time I got there so it wasn’t too crowded and proved to be excellent people watching. Nothing like watching random drunk people act like idiots to make yourself feel better! haha

Hope your weekend was just as fun! And thank goodness for a short week this week, right?!

This weekend! I loved watching it on snap. The concert with Chromeo and Chet Faker seemed INSANE. So dope.

I love this skirt, because I am cool with my legs (of all body parts) to show. I’ll never be a crop top gal, just the facts.

Great post – so good to hear about your weekend!
