Bows & Sequins Beauty Review: Physicians Formula Contour Stick

CONTOUR. Anyone else get a little freaked out when they hear that beauty term? If so, you’re not alone. I used to work on a color cosmetics brand and I’ve had my makeup professionally done countless times for shoots and events over the years… Even still, it kind of freaks me out. I understand how to contour in terms of light and dark areas, but it’s always so much easier than done! It’s hard to achieve at home when you’re on your own, right? When a few makeup artists have contoured my face, I’ve felt a bit clown-like and always feel like I have wayyy too much makeup on my face. All the power to them, but I’m not going for that Kardashian look, you know? BUT with the makeup artists that have gotten it right over the years, and have achieved that subtle contouring look that really does change the shape of your face, I totally get it! With some subtle shading and blending, you can slim your jawline, emphasize your cheekbones, highlight your eyes, slim your nose, etc. But how to do that at home, am I right?! And easily, too! Ain’t nobody got time to spend an extra 10 minutes contouring their face in the morning.

Most contour products I’ve tried are just too much. I wear a pretty light foundation in terms of coverage so I’ve been in need of a contour product that is also very buildable. Nothing too heavy! Meet the Physicians Formula #InstaReady Contour Trio Stick.

I’m not going to lie… I was freaked out to try this contour stick when I first saw it. I was thinking there was no way that these three lines could fit everyone’s face! I had my photographer, Melissa, shoot these photos the very first time I used the product to really capture that real, first-time use. I had my foundation on and had a meeting later that afternoon so I was hoping that I wouldn’t mess it all up and have to start from scratch. You can tell by the photos how surprised I was! It feels a bit like war paint when it goes on… It’s crazy-looking! But once you blend it out, you honestly do have that subtly sculpted look!

I can’t get over how easy it is to use! If you aren’t sure where to begin, there’s a detailed photo on the package that teaches you the basics. You can use the three shades at once along your cheekbones, and also use the highlight and contour shades on their own, too! I tried blending with my fingers, a brush, and also a sponge. The directions recommend your fingers, which worked perfectly fine, but a brush was great, too!

Overall, I love the product! It’s very easy to use, and the formula glides on really smoothly. It’s not greasy at all, and actually helps to absorb oil throughout the day, which is kind of awesome. It has SPF 30, too, which obviously I like… Any little bit helps!

I haven’t tried the Physicians Formula contouring product… but I really like Maybeline’s “DreamLumi” highlighter. It’s so pretty and really brightens up the face. Thanks for sharing!

Love this post and how you simplify the process for beginners. I’ve been contouring for a while now and even I’m surprised at how simple you’ve made it sound/look. Kudos to you babe!
