Rugby Stripes and Boyfriend Chinos

how to wear boyfriend chino pants outfit

There’s nothing more classic than a rugby-striped tee and a pair of chino pants! Typically, though, when you think of the two, you probably think more weekend than workday. Right? But it’s all about the styling! I’ve paired the two together for a look that seamlessly takes you from your desk to dinner and drinks.

When I worked in an office everyday, ankle-length skinny chinos were my go-to.. I had them in just about every color! Since volume is having a moment, I figured it was time to pick up a pair of boyfriend-style chinos to mix it up a bit. I’ve always loved the juxtaposition of styling slightly-baggy boyfriend-style pants with a pointed-toe pump. And while you might be saving your boyfriend jeans for brunch on the weekends, a great-fitting pair of boyfriend chinos can definitely feel appropriate in the workplace when paired with the right pieces. A pair of classic pumps and a sleek vest or textured blazer always do the trick!

This black and white striped top is so versatile! The slightly swingy shape fits nicely over a pair of skinny jeans, but can just as easily be tucked into a fun, flared skirt. (Or these cute, bow-tied shorts for the weekend!) Stripes are the perfect way to print mix, too. I paired the top with leopard print here, but it would look fab with a floral or black and white printed skirt, too. Or even these floral pants!

Also, you might be able to tell from a few of the full-length photos, but I photographed the pants rolled two different ways! I’ve been seeing a lot of the once-folded cuffs lately (that kind of take me back to my middle school days!), and I actually think it looks really sleek for the workweek, with these pants anyway. But you can roll them up a second time for a more relaxed feel on the weekends!

I talk about it often, but I’m all about those wear-with-anything pieces that completely maximize your wardrobe. Pieces that take you from season-to-season and workday to weekend, you know? It makes getting dressed that much easier! I’m loving just about everything from the BR Classics at Banana Republic right now because each and every piece can take you from workday to weekend and beyond. And especially worth noting with the tricky transition weather right now, you’ll find a ton of pieces that will take you from the chilly, early spring mornings, through warm summer days, all the way through the temperatures cooling back down in the fall!

I literally have this outfit on today for work! Different brand… well Old Navy from years past, but I wear something similar to this all the time to work. Works so well for a casual day or just a casual office!

Okay, I need to check out these pants! They look so so cute on you! I tried on some similar at J.Crew, but just didn’t look right on me, so I’m thinking maybe these ones should be next to try! Thanks for the ideas, as always, Jess!
