Flares, you guys. I finally did it! Flared jeans have been making a comeback, but Iโve been much too reluctant to give them a try. Iโve read that theyโre slimming and leg-elongating, but Iโve hated every pair that Iโve tried on over the past few seasons. Iโd come to terms with the fact that this was a style I would be skipping indefinitely. For me, skinny jeans only.
I must have been feeling adventurous when I was shopping at Old Navy last. (Remember how Old Navy is slaying this spring?!) There was a whole table of flared jeans when I walked in so I figured, โWhat the heck?! Iโll give them a try.โ I was fully intending to try them on and instantly decide NOPE. So imagine my shock when I tried on this flared pair under $40 and actually kind of loved them! And I wouldnโt even have to get them tailoredโฆ Could it be so?!
Flared jeans can be a tricky silhouette to wear. For flares to work their leg-lengthening magic, you really do have to wear them with some sort of heel. Whether it be pumps, lace-up sandals, wedges, or booties, some elevation is key!
In terms of length, Iโm 5โ5โโ, but I do have long legs in proportion to the rest of my body. (And a very short torso to even it out!) Iโm wearing them here with my 3.75โ heels and the length couldnโt be more perfect. A very happy accident! I have pretty muscular thighs, though, which could definitely be โshorteningโ the hem a bit, too.
I love the overall fit of these jeans, too. Theyโve got the perfect amount of stretch, a great fit through the butt and thighs, and a nice high rise, too. Iโm wearing my regular size, and the regular length. Thereโs also petite and tall variations if you need them!
For styling my new-found flares, I went all-in with the 70โs vibes. I love the romantic, feminine feel of this lace top. If youโre not into the boho billowing blouse, try balancing out the volume of flared jeans with a more form-fitting shirt on top! Tucking a striped shirt into your high-rise jeans, or even tying up the ends of a button-down shirt, would look chic.

I have been so reluctant to try flares the past few seasons too! I wore them all the time in Jr high, but I can’t get back onboard! Knowing ON has these, I want to run to the store to see how I like them! Thanks for this post, Jess! And the inspo!

I can’t believe that top is from Old Navy! It’s adorable. I love flared jeans, too – they are so flattering. My only problem is I don’t wear heels during the week so I save my flares for the weekend only.
Glad to see that you found a great pair of flared pants. I founded a pair at Target when I was even looking! They’re very comfortable and fit great. I’ve always loved the silhouette of flared jeans!

This is such a sponsored post and I can tell these thoughts are not your own…
I’m sorry you feel that way, Sara. I assure you that these thoughts are my own! What thoughts are you referring to that feel inauthentic? Most of the copy in this post is a) my styling tips for flared jeans and b) sizing advice, both of which are most certainly not provided by an outside party. I’ve been working with Old Navy for *years* .. It’s a brand/store I genuinely shop at outside of sponsored content and wear “in real life,” outside of outfit posts.
Old Navy is sooo slaying it right now! I stopped today after work and had a difficult time deciding what to get! I picked up the shirt you are wearing because it was 50% off! Definitely trying it tomorrow with my flared jeans for casual Friday.
True story.. I JUST bought this top and jeans. Wouldn’t have necessarily thought to pair them together, but I’m loving how you’ve styled them here!
I’m 5’2″ and tried on the regular length in store and they were WAY long, even with heels.. so I ordered the petite online, which I think will still be great with heels!
Always love your blog!
