Leopard + Stripes

fall outfit weekend with a hat

I don’t know what it is about this sweater, but when I saw it earlier this fall, I was instantly drawn to it. Like, a magnetic force. I mean, I love stripes. I love leopard. And I’m always on the hunt for orange & blue. I tried leaving the store without it, but ended up coming right back and buying it. I couldn’t say no!

It’s perfectly cozy for a whole slew of winter activities. Whether it’s a football or basketball game, or just a weekend brunch, I’m all about the oversized sweaters lately. Winter hibernation, anyone?

And on an unrelated and randomย note, I’ve turned into one of those people. You know, the ones that are constantly complaining about the weather like it’s the only thing they know of to talk about. Yep, guilty as charged. The reallyย pathetic part is that we’ve had the most mild winter in the midwest up until the last few weeks. But man on man, the last few weeks have been a struggle. It’s only been in the 20’s, but it’s felt like the teens. We’ve got a long road ahead and I’m not quite sure how I’m going to make it through.. Yesterday was my first “shoot day” of 2016 and it was so miserableย (my phone said it felt like 14 degrees at the time) that I’m not sure how the next four months are going to pan out. I need to think of some creative indoor ideas ASAP!

Walking 10,000 steps outside everyday has been a struggle, too, but I’ve been making myself get outside and get moving. I cringe thinking about the day that I just walk on the treadmill in the gym in my building. I’ll save those never-leave-the-building-days for a blizzard or something.

I have warm coats and I’m always wearing a scarf, gloves, and a beanie. Any other tricks? It’s not like I grew up in a tropical climate by any means, but I’m having a hard time adjusting. Maybe it’s just those first few weeks where everything seems colder than it is… And then you adapt and just kind of become numb? Let’s hope that’s on the horizon!

Smartwool socks. I wear nothing but smartwool socks in the winter. Sorel boots are incredibly warm as well even if there aren’t piles of snow on the ground. Also a sleeping bag coat is a must at all times. Peacoats are cute and stylish but they are NOT warm. Idc what anyone says. I just thought to myself this morning “this weather isnt so bad if you have a sleeping bag coat” (ie the north face long down feather filled coat that everyone has).

I’m struggling with this sudden cold spell in the Midwest, too. I always forget how miserable it can be! I’ve been investing in some thick socks and heavy scarves to help ease the pain!

I love this look! The jumper is so unique & different – it’s adorable! Plus, it looks great dressed down with jeans, booties & that fab crossbody. I was in Chicago for a week during a cold snap & I complained everyday! You’re not alone!

Love the sweater- so different and so cute! I’m also lusting over your bag! You look awesome, Jess. I can totally relate about the cold. Not good here in Boston and even though it’s better than last year’s snowmaggedon, I won’t stop complaining! xoxo, Jenna
