Plaid + Tweed

over the knee boots outfit

While scrambling to keep up with Christmas-related events and to-dos, I kind of forgot that New Years Eve is right around the corner, too. Oops! What’s your take on NYE? Personally, I’m not the biggest fan. Even though I told Hallie a few days ago that my ideal New Years would be taking a sleeping pill and sleeping for 18 hours, I’m not that anti-social. 😉 But to be honest, I feel like there’s too much pressure to have the best night ever on New Years Eve. I hate those over-crowded and over-priced all-you-can-drink bar specials, you can never get a cab, Uber is like 195x surge pricing, it’s freezing outside, coat check lines are long… I could go on and on and on. My favorite New Years Eve to date was last year when my college friends and I drove up to Michigan to a friend’s lake house and stayed in playing games, snacking, and watching the countdowns from all over the world. Another favorite was my first year out of college when I lived in Lincoln Park in Chicago and we threw a big NYE bash at our apartment.

For me, the trick to having a great night on NYE is staying in, in one spot, and planning on spending the night there unless you’re in walking distance. Or just host the party so you don’t have to worry about getting home! 😉

If you’re opting for a more casual NYE this year, or you’ve got yourself a semi-casual holiday party still on the horizon, this is one of my favorite outfit options. Unless of course you’re going for the super casual lock-in route like we did in Michigan, in which case pajamas are all the rage! This sparkly tweed skirt can be dressed up one million different ways, but I personally love it dressed down with a plaid or chambray button-up shirt. I paired it with my OTK boots for a look that makes it a bit more night-on-the-town, but I think it would look so cute with a pair of white sneakers, a pointed-toe pump, a festive flat, or even a casual bootie. Options are endless!

PS: Sail to Sable is offering Bows & Sequins readers an extra 20% off this skirt with code SKIRT20!

I agree with you on New Year’s Eve! The pj party with your friends sounds so fun 🙂 I’m loving this look, but especially because I can pretty easily recreate it with pieces from my own closet- yay!

My favorite NYEs have always been the ones where I stayed in with friends. This year, we’re doing a group steak + frites dinner followed by a party at a friend’s house. Ringing in the New Year on a comfy couch is where it’s at 🙂

Very pretty outfit. I love the high heel over the knee boots. I especially love the short skirt. Over the knee boot might be too warm this Christmas in NYC so I will likely go with a high heel sandal instead.
