One for You, One for Me

oak street chicago

I’ve been traveling like a crazy person over the last few weeks, which has made it extremely challenging to get all of my holiday tasks done. I haven’t even ordered my holiday cards yet. (Doing that today!!) I just finished decorating my Christmas tree on Sunday. But I am so relieved to finally say that I have almost everyone on my shopping list checked off!

My parents were in town this past weekend and we set out to do some Christmas shopping on Sunday afternoon. “One for you, one for me” tends to be my motto when I’m shopping for gifts, but I was pretty good this year! I only purchased a few things for myself when we were at Old Navy. The finds (and prices!) were too good to pass up!

I picked up this plaid blanket scarf for almost every female on my Christmas list. I’m obsessed with this fair isle sweater for the holidays… I got it in blue and this dark gray for myself, and in white for my brother’s girlfriend. (Hoping she doesn’t read this… 😉 ) I’ve been wearing this plaid flannel all season long (remember this post?!) .. It would make for a great gift, too! And you definitely can’t go wrong with a pair of gloves, a cozy scarf, or a cute beanie!

Lately all of your posts seem to be for sponsorships. Understand the reason why, but at same time don’t care for it and miss the Jess’ posts that I looked forward to reading. Still think you’re the best. 🙂

Hi Bets! First off, I really appreciate your honest comment. I definitely can’t argue with you, majority (about 60%) of my content over the last two weeks has, in fact, been sponsored. As I’m sure you realize, Q4 is generally when advertisers are using up the remainder of the budgets for the year, especially right before the holidays. All of the holiday campaigns that I chose to take part in ended within the last two weeks, which is why my editorial calendar has been pretty heavy on the sponsored posts. I do have a monthly ratio that I always stay within in terms of not-sponsored/sponsored content, and to be totally transparent — I only have one more sponsored post that will be going live during the month of December, which will take my sponsored content ratio back down to the usual 20% that I try to stick to. In order to keep producing all of the content on my site, I have to take advantage of opportunities that are a great fit for Bows & Sequins when they arise. (Especially when opportunities won’t be as plentiful in Q1 and Q2 this coming year.) As you may have noticed, I did away with all banner ads in July of this year.. no pop-up ads, no sidebar flashing ads, or anything of the sort. My intention was to forfeit that advertising income because I couldn’t control those ads or what popped up for you and the rest of my readers. My belief is that native advertising (sponsored posts) that I am able to hand-select for Bows & Sequins is a much better way to maintain the style and aesthetic of my website, while taking in the necessary funds to run it. While posts have been sponsored, I want you (and the rest of my readers) to know that I only accept sponsorship from brands that I *genuinely* use and love. I say no to at least 80% of the campaigns that come my way because maintaining my voice and integrity is my top priority when producing new content for Bows & Sequins.
Again, I appreciate your honesty and am so glad you feel comfortable leaving your true feelings in a comment. I hope this little bit of business-model-nitty-gritty helps to shed some light behind the scenes. xo JRS

Ummm, I can’t believe those boots are Old Navy. They look just like the Dolce Vita pair I was browsing last night!
