Fall Farmer’s Market

The Green City Market in Lincoln Park is one of my favorite Wednesday and Saturday morning rituals, especially this time of year! (If you’re in Chicago, hurry and make it out one last time before the season ends on 10/31 and the market moves indoors.)

I’ve been making a big effort to get outside as much as possible this week. The fall weather has been incredible in Chicago thus far, but unfortunately we all know what’s looming on the other side. I’m trying to soak up as much sunshine and fresh air as I can by walking to all of my meetings and appointments, taking advantage of farmers markets, walking along the lake front, and making it a point to get up to Lincoln Park on the weekends.

When it comes to making a trip to the farmers market, usually I’m rolling out of bed to get there early (7am!) before things get picked over! I toss on a pair of jeans, a comfy sweater, a puffy vest for extra warmth, and a baseball hat to conceal my bedhead. (I put slightly more effort into my appearance for this trip, as I knew my photographer, Melissa, was meeting me. 😉 ) I always opt for a crossbody bag to keep my hands free and I recently got this tote (not pictured) to take home all of my produce.

With winter on the horizon (insert panic here), I’ve been focused on my boot game to make sure I’m prepared. You might remember this past spring how I was debating between the packable Hunter boots and the short style. I settled on the packable style for my trip to rainy Europe this past April, but for everyday running around, I prefer the shorter style that’s pictured here. (I got both my packable pair and my short pair from Zappos! Gotta love that next day shipping!) I also love the idea of this same outfit with a sneaker for a cool, casual look. (PS: Don’t forget to get your Bean Boots if you haven’t already!)

I debated and debated about which color Hunter boots to get in the short style. My tall packable pair is green, so that was out. I love the idea of a pop of red, but worried I would tire of the color. I finally settled on the navy pair (shocking) because really, can you ever go wrong with navy? (Nope.) Once I got them home, though, I loved them even more. Most of the time when you see cute outfits with girls wearing rainboots, the boots are usually a bright color and they make such a statement. It can definitely be cute, but I absolutely love how these navy boots just blend right into my dark rinse denim for more of a subtle look!

This is such a fun outfit. I love how the hat and boots give it a more casual look, while still looking very polished. I haven’t been to my local farmers market yet this year, but I’m hoping to make it out for the last weekend on Oct. 31!

    Hello,

First of all, I have to say that I adore this look and just checked out the rest of your blog! So cute! I never wake up early to make it to the Farmer’s Markets in Chicago. I live in the South Loop and have always wanted to go to the Lincoln Park one – but I’m such a sleepy head.

I love the look of Hunter Boots but I am so petite – they just stick out like crazy. I haven’t found a rain boot that fits really slim legs yet….I’m a size 7 and every hunter boot I’ve tried just sticks out like a sore thumb lol. Oh well….

I honestly never thought about navy Hunters (I have red- so I’m the pop of color girl!), but I am love love loving how they blend in so naturally with your jeans and look like a boot rather than a rain boot! This is an awesome farmer’s market or weekend errand look 🙂

I like this outfit. I love the colour palette you choose for this outfit. Great stuff. I do think it could have been nice to add a drop of bright colour, not necessarily through the boots but through a necklace or bracelet. The bright colour need not be red but it could be a bright shade of blue. A red pair of boots with a matching red scarf would have looked great though.
