A Casual Christmas

You guys. It is so friggen cold and windy (and snowy) in New York lately. I believe blustery would be the correct term. I know it’s December and all, but yikes! It makes me want to just curl up inside under blankets with some hot cocoa. #HermitAlert

Luckily for me, I’m escaping the city on Saturday to go home for the holidays. Unluckily for me, my parents live in Illinois where it’s even colder than it is here. Can’t they just move somewhere warm already?! On the bright side, central Illinois isn’t a very ‘happenin’ place so I will be clocking lots of hours near the fireplace. I’ll also be able to drive to wherever I need to go, which is a major plus. Too bad my garage spot was given away to my younger siblings years ago. Maybe I can devise a plan to get that back and I’ll really never have to go outside. I’m in serious hibernation mode, if you couldn’t already tell.

I am so looking forward to going home for the holidays, though! Even if home is in Illinois. 😉 Besides a short 48 hour trip for Mother’s Day, I haven’t been home since last Christmas. Crazy, right? I’m excited to spend time with Daisy, my family, and friends from back home.

My family’s holiday get-togethers are always overly casual. Like, Carhartts and Camo casual. #YouThinkImKiddingButImNot Per usual, any ‘fancy’ things I’m wearing will be joked about, these glitter pumps included. I can hear my uncles now… “Dorothy, is that you?”

In an effort to stay casual, but still cute and festive, I’m going with jeans this year. On the top, I’ll be pairing a plaid shirt (fits right in with carhartts & camo, don’t you think?) with a fair isle sweater and a thick puffy vest. You know me, I always like to have a jacket, blazer, or some sort of vest to complete my outfit. I feel like a puffer vest is a great middle ground for looking put together, but not too ‘formal,’ as compared to my beloved blazers. And Wizard of Oz or not, the glittery pumps will be making an appearance. ‘Tis the season, after all!

Good idea to layer the puffer over a sweater! I’ve never done that but it does add a great layer of warmth, and it’s cute. Happy holidays!

You and I have very similar family members! Any time I wear anything fancy in the least there are comments made 🙂 I want to wear a large statement necklace this year, but I’m afraid that might attract the attention of too many little ones. Not that they aren’t cute, but it’s not cute when they’re tugging at my necklace! Mmm, the puffy vest is sounding like a very good idea.

So cute! I can’t believe that sweater is Old Navy! I’m with you on the overly casual family get togethers. I have no girls around and last year my uncle joked me All. Day. Long. about my fur vest. Ugh. Boys.

A puffer vest it my go to when I need to keep warm! Although there are many adorable coats out there, they tend to kill your fashion buzz just a little since it can be somewhat constricting to be in a floor length , down coat come December. It the perfect casual addition to a cozy sweater.

Love this outfit! I’ve been watching for this sweater to go on sale at my local Old Navy! And I think Casual for Christmas is perfect. All the parties for work and with friends require sequins and tulle and sparkle. If you can’t go au natural in pyjamas and a messy bun with your family, then you can’t with anyone.

    Merry Christmas!
